Swim Meet 101

Declare Your Swimmer

The week before the meet, you must "declare" your swimmer(s) so the coaches will know if you will be at the meet.

Volunteer

Each family is asked to sign up to volunteer at the meet. We ask that you sign up for at least 3 slots over the course of the season. If you are new, look around at the first meet and see what you might like to do. Someone will help you learn a new job, so don’t be afraid to sign up for something new.

Write Events on Arm

The way to write events on a swimmer is to write the headings first:

E=Event #

H=Heat #

L=Lane #

Below the headings, write that actual Event #s, Heat #s, and Lane #s for the several events. This helps the swimmer remember what events they are in. It is most helpful to have these on the swimmer’s arm and their first name and age on their back, in black Sharpie. Macintosh HD:Users:drlaurasneely:Desktop:marking arm1.jpg

Bring to the Meet

Swimmer in the team suit, goggles, cap, extra towels, camp chairs, money to buy snacks/dinner/drinks. Sometimes umbrellas are also useful to keep the sun off or the rain away.

Weather

We hope that the weather is good. We will have the meet rain or shine. However, if it thunders, we first try to wait out the storm. If it doesn’t blow over, we reschedule. All weather updates come through the SwimTopia app. Turn on notifications for the app after you have downloaded it from the Apple/Android app store.

After the Meet

After the meet, please help clean up our area. You may leave when you have finished all your events, but it is a good idea to check with coaches to make sure they don’t need you to swim a relay near the end of the meet. The final score will be announced, hopefully, about 15 minutes after the final race.
