Return to Swim Protocols for Agnes Scott
Revised 11.10.2020
As we focus on the return to swim practice, we have been working hard to
come up with the safest ways to accommodate our swimmers. We have
compiled a list of protocols based on information provided by the CDC,
the Georgia Department of Public Health and USA Swimming.
Please read through the following protocols so you can understand what will be expected of our coaches, swimmers, and parents going forward. We will be taking every precaution that is possible according to the above sources of information. We understand that despite the protocols put in place, some swimmers and families may not be ready to return to the pool. If for any reason you are uncomfortable, we respect your decision to stay home.
Pool Protocols
We will have between 4 and 8 lanes at Agnes Scott during practices. We
will only allow 4 or 5 swimmers per lane. This permits a total of 36
swimmers per practice time. Accordingly, our current schedule has been
staggered to allow for groups to have as much space as possible for
every workout. Most groups will have the majority of practice time with 4
or less swimmers per lane. Two swimmers will start on each side and will be asked to remain
six feet apart when waiting on the walls. We will ask our swimmers to
hang on the lane line separated from their lane mate when needed to
maintain appropriate distancing. In the event that more than 36 swimmers
show up, we will split the workout and have 1 group of swimmers doing
socially distanced dry-land exercises outdoors and 1 group swimming in
the water. The two groups will
switch off so that each get a full workout. This applies to groups Gold & Above. Please send
your swimmer to the pool with exercise clothes and sneakers in the event that dry-land is necessary.

lanes will hold 5 swimmers
with the 5th swimmer keeping 6-foot distance by starting at the flags.
This staging has been approved by USA Swimming for use in 25-meter
pools. Parents are invited to observe this change during practice if
requested. We will initiate the change with our older swimmers (Gold and
above) first, before adjusting with our younger groups. In the diagram
below you can see the set up for five per lane (lanes 2, 4, and 6).
Agnes Scott
has 8 lanes which allows us to accommodate an additional 9 swimmers (for a total of 36).
8. Swimmers will use their own equipment. No shared equipment will be allowed.
9. At the conclusion of practice, swimmers will be asked to exit the
pool using the door at the block end of the pool. Swimmers must wear

11. Swimmers must wear their own masks when they are arriving and
departing AND any time, they are on the pool deck during practice.
Parent Guidelines
1. Parents will arrive on time to drop swimmers at practice. If you
arrive early, please remain in your vehicle until it is time for your
swimmer’s practice to start. Please try not to arrive late it will disrupt our ability organize our lanes for practice and get the workout started.
2. Parents will be asked to stay in their vehicles at drop off and pick
up*. We ask that if parents need to stay at the pool, they remain in
their vehicle in the parking areas and avoid socializing with other
parents.
*Parents of young swimmers (Lessons, Pups, Bronze) can enter the
building with their swimmers and help to sign them in at the front desk.
Parents should bring the swimmer onto the deck and then leave for the
duration of the practice to limit the number of people in the pool area
at one time.
3. We ask that parents try to leave space between
their vehicles and others so that swimmers can maintain social
distancing while arriving and leaving practices. When possible park one
spot away from the nearest vehicle.
4. Parents will arrive on time for pick up. Swimmers will not be
permitted to wait on the pool deck or wait with coaches after practices.
Locker Room Guidelines
1. Swimmers will refrain from gathering in the locker rooms.
2. The only approved use of the locker room for swimmers and coaches will be restroom use.
3. Any time a swimmer or coach uses the locker room they will wash their
hands thoroughly using soap and water for at least 20 seconds before
returning to the pool deck.
4. Coaches will make every effort to stagger bathroom breaks so that no more than 3 swimmers will be use the restroom at a time.
